Dart Boards

Steel-Tip Dartboard placement
The steel-tip dartboard is placed on the wall so the center of the bullseye is exactly 5 feet 8 inches from the floor. The throwing line, or toe line, is 7 feet 9 ¼ inches from the face of the dartboard. A bristle dartboard can be used for either Steel-Tip or Soft-tip play.

Soft-Tip Dartboards
The soft-tip dart was introduced in the 1970’s and has become very popular since then. At present, soft-tip dartboards are available with or without electronic scoring features. Both types of board are made of durable hard plastic point, designed to slip into one of several holes molded into the face of the plastic dartboard.

Game Principles
There are three different gaming principles to take note between playing Steel-Tip and Soft-Tip games:

  1. The throwing line for the Steel-Tip is 7 feet 9 ¼ inches and the Soft-Tip is 8 feet.
  2. The score for the Steel-Tip bullseye may be either single (25) or double (50). Bullseye on a Soft-Tip dartboard is a single amount, usually 50 points.
  3. Electronic dartboards will keep score automatically, even if the dart drops out of the dartboard.
